Literature Text

"That clumsy dumbass," Kageyama sneered venomously under his breath, every inkling of strength residing in his exhausted muscles exerted their final draw as he tirelessly hauled the final segments of the expansive net into the equipment room. Due to a corruption of practice, Hinata and Kageyama were both forced to finish up the lengthy, arduous task of cleaning up if they wished for dear redemption. The only problematic piece to this was Hinata fled promptly after everyone else did — leaving the arrogant setter to complete the job on his lonesome.

Two calloused hands smacked together to dab off the remaining (and hardly existent) dirt from the palms, and with that the male was finished his unblemished job - the floor had been swept to a veneer finish, and there wasn't a volleyball or shard of equipment in sight, it was like the club hadn't occupied its space at all! A ghost of a smirk controlled his lips while he steadily slung his bag over his shoulder, and punctually locked up after giving his shrewd gaze a swipe across the contours of the gymnasium once more to double-check his work, although he didn't have any doubts it was anything but fine.

As he exited the building, catching himself sauntering underneath the sweet shield of metal clanking above him, that gazebo-type structure uplifting to its job and blocking out the rain...wait, it was raining?! Cavernous sapphire orbs widened in something akin to astonishment and dread, ugh, just his flipping luck! "I didn't bring an umbrella!" he cursed, voice mirroring that irritation newly permeating through his nerves.

It wasn't until your petite hand clasped gently at the sleeve of his sweater that he realized you trotted from the opposite side of the small hall over to him. A sickening amount of red scorched his pale cheeks, and his expression contorted into one of embarrassment. "You forgot an umbrella, Kageyama-kun?" you delicately inquired whilst relinquishing that light hold on his sleeve.

He furiously nodded his head, abashed you of all people had caught him in this unfair trepidation of thoughtless behavior. "Y-Yeah..!" he barked out, flinching inwardly at his own harsh tone - the anger hadn't dissipated from his body, and clearly he accidentally took some of that raging feeling out on you despite his intention of not doing so. God, how does one act in front of their crush? Kageyama wished he knew. "It's raining really hard, too!"

Nodding considerably, unmoved by his sudden critical and grating statements, you shyly held out your [f/c] umbrella to him. "Here, you can take mine. We can't have Karasuno's setter catching a cold," you offered compassionately, sympathizing well with the distress reaped on him from missing a tool to keep himself dry - you were pretty clumsy, and often found yourself in similar situations.

"A-Are you sure? What are you going to use then?" he eyed you suspiciously, deciding that there was no way in hell he'd take that precious umbrella from you if it meant you'd be sprinting out in the damp, palpitating storm with no means to protect yourself.

He noticed a visible tinge of warmth outline your soft cheeks as you pointed back to your waiting friend, a glaring yellow umbrella between her hands as she impatiently pined for you to come back to her side so you could hurry up along home. "My friend has one, so it's fine..." you murmured, descending your hand back to your side and letting it hang there.

Since you were smaller in height then him, you had to cock your head up to lock gazes with him; marble [e/c] optics peered lasciviously at him through thick ebony lashes, every extent of his self-control began to grudgingly tear away from their confines inside him, and he picked up every piece of restraint in him to shove away any salacious thoughts of hugging, touching, or kissing you. Dammit, you were so beautiful - benevolent to the absolute core.

"Thank you!" he proclaimed thunderously, voice booming as he pathetically expressed his gratitude in a somewhat discordant tone because his mind told him to placidly respond, yet his body reacted stridently against his own pleads. There was an awkward silence as the two of you longingly stared at each other, features suffused with heat and flushed colors of red, before you finally pivoted on your spot.

Your next words penetrated his heart the most, "You're welcome - be careful on your way home!" They were so simple, but the angelic and altruistic way you spoke them out imbued another tender warmth in his chest, and allowed the organ to hammer harder away at his ribcage.

"You same!" No wait; that's not right. "I-I mean, you too!" he babbled out, face bathed in a darkened shade of red from utter humiliation - he just made a complete fool of himself, he must look stunningly stupid right now in front of you. There was a hearty chuckle bubbling past your parted lips once you reached your friend, and you returned an ample grin to him before giving a simple wave and walking away with your friend.

The frontal visage of Kageyama Tobio was the same to a bright-red statue, but an ever so alarming smile worked its way sharply to his lips. If there was a single good thing about having to finishing up cleaning late...it was definitely this. Tightly clutching the umbrella, opening it up, and staring yearningly at the cute star charms that dangled from every point; this spoke wonders about you, wonders he truly wanted to discover himself.
